JAMPRO, through its film commission, hosted the local screening of Knight and Day, a summer blockbuster, featuring exciting scenes shot in beautiful Port Antonio, Jamaica's pristine eastern corridor with Hollywood A-list actors Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

Officials from the agency, members of the local film industry and other specially invited guests attended the tasteful wine-and-cheese reception at the Carib cinema in Cross Roads. Prior to viewing the 109-minute 20th Century Fox action-comedy, the audience was treated to the trailer of Ghett'a Life, the latest project from local film-maker Chris Browne, and a featurette on the New Caribbean Cinema movement.

In early February, JAMPRO's film commission facilitated the shooting of pivotal scenes in Knight and Day at Frenchman's Cove in Portland, which pumped US$1.35 million (J$121 million) into the local economy and created employment for 80 Jamaicans.

Frenchman's Cove was selected as a location by the 20th Century Fox late last year after a four-day scouting exercise facilitated by JAMPRO.

Knight and Day is an action-comedy film starring Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and directed by James Mangold. June Havens (Cameron Diaz) is an average blonde who runs into the charming and mysterious Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) at an airport, and is sucked into a series of misadventures when Roy turns out to be a secret agent fighting rogue elements in his own agency. Depending on which way you view it, he might just as easily be seen as the rogue agent.

The conflict surrounds a mysterious device called the Zephyr that Roy is either protecting or trying to steal. But director James Mangold always knows how to make a film play, and his skills haven't deserted him here. His pacing is brisk and fun, and he has included some terrific action.

In the film, Cruise is able to flex his comedic muscles, while at the same time giving the viewers their fair share of action.

Overall, Knight and Day is a funny spy movie with adventure and romance.

According to, the action-comedy flick has prompted Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Karl Samuda to explore ways of bringing more films to the shores of Jamaica.
