Dalkeith Great House and Luxury Cottages – Knockpatrick, Newport P.O., Mandeville

Dalkeith Great House is a former colonial banana and coffee plantation, about 10 minutes from the center of Mandeville, which originally covered about 600 acres. Today, four acres remain. The property was purchased in 1999, restored, and three self-contained guest cottages were added. There are two 1-bedroom cottages and one 2-bedroom cottage. They are beautifully decorated – check out the photos on their website! All have modern kitchens and are fully equipped with everything you might need to cook. There are modern bathrooms with showers, color TV, internet access, radio and fans. Each cottage has its own private entrance and the entire property is secured. Dalkeith also offers a beautiful swimming pool, lovely gardens and mountain views. They welcome guests 16 years of age and older and the property is smoke-free. Phone: 876.904.8341 or 876.407.3518. Golf View Inn – 5 ½ Caledonia Rd., Mandeville

Opened in 1998, the Golf View Inn does need a bit of upgrading but is a very good option in a parish without many good options for lodging. It was built originally as an apartment complex, with rooms facing a courtyard, and later converted to an inn so it resembles a motel. The property overlooks the Manchester Club Golf Course, the oldest surviving golf club in the western hemisphere. The 70 spacious, comfortable rooms are decorated in bright tropical colors and feature private bathrooms, A/C and/or ceiling fans, and cable TV. There is a lovely pool on the property. Some have complained that the customer service can leave something to be desired, but the Golf View Inn still seems to be a good location for budget vacationers. They also have conference space and can accommodate weddings and business events. Phone: 876.962.4477. Visit them on the web.
Mandeview Flats - 7 Hillview Drive, Balvenie Heights, Mandeville

Another possibility in Manchester Parish is this small, quiet guesthouse in a pretty residential area on the cool hillside overlooking town. The 19-room property is perfect for a peaceful, quiet and relaxing vacation or business stay. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, and include cable TV, mini fridges and wired high-speed internet. Mandeview’s rates include a full breakfast and other meals can be prepared on request. Mandeville Hotel - 4 Hotel Street, Mandeville

This Mandeville landmark sits on the site of one of Mandeville’s first buildings, a structure used as a British officer’s quarters. In 1875, the site became the Waverley Hotel, later changing to the Brooks Hotel, before finally becoming the Mandeville Hotel. In 1971, the old buildings were replaced with the present structure and, in 1986, it was acquired by the McIntyres who set out to restore the warm and friendly atmosphere of the old hotel and renovate the lovely Georgian architecture. Some renovating has been done and, although more refurbishing is necessary, guests say the Mandeville makes up for these shortcomings with 5-star customer service. The spacious rooms are clean and nicely decorated with older furnishings. Amenities include air conditioning, cable TV, and a mini fridge. Hot water in the shower may take a few minutes to come out. Wireless internet is available in the reception area. The grounds are spotless and well-manicured. Hotel Mandeville’s location in the center of town makes it so convenient; everything you need is within 5 minutes walking distance (supermarket, fast food, local restaurants, etc). The nightly rates include breakfast. The Arches restaurant, poolside, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the Manchester Arms Pub serves a wide range of beverages and finger foods.
